Waltham Forest Labour is excited to be able to share our recent announcement that we will be investing an additional £1m in Children’s Social Care. Delivering outstanding outcomes for young people in all our work with them is a key part of our Labour mission in Waltham Forest, and this investment will support our teams in doing just that at a time of unprecedented pressures and need following a decade of Tory cuts.

This money will be vital in supporting the young people right across the borough and will enable us to:

  • recruit additional social workers to help lower caseloads and ensure every young person gets the support they need
  • rebalance away from using interim social work roles to more permanent staff, ensuring young people get the stability of support we know they prefer and is best for them
  • continue to invest in our innovative and effective edge of care work, supporting families to stay together and reducing the need to take young people into care
  • ensure our social workers are rewarded fairly, and can continue to progress at Waltham Forest when they may previously have reached the top of their scale When it comes to supporting our young people it’s action not words that matters, and this package underlines Waltham Forest Labour’s commitment to putting young people right at the heart of our work as a council.
