Statement from Cllr Ahsan Khan, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Lead for Housing and Development on the ongoing situation at Walthamstow Stadium:

I am extremely pleased to have received a letter on 23rd November, from London & Quadrant (L&Q) Housing Association regarding an offer to private rental sector residents at Walthamstow Stadium.

L&Q have confirmed that as of 21st November, they have offered the majority of residents the option of moving temporarily or permanently to a home at The Chain, a new L&Q development at South Grove, Walthamstow. L&Q have also offered to freeze rents for the duration of the works programme and offered £5,000 compensation.

Whilst I am pleased that L&Q have offered residents the option of moving into a new home, I am disappointed that the issue has taken so long to resolve. This issue has caused immense difficulties for residents, and I hope L&Q will look to take this action swiftly in future.

Waltham Forest Labour are committed to helping all residents across the borough when they are facing difficulties such as these and ask every resident to contact the council or myself if they feel they need help. In our most recent election, we promised to be on the side of local residents. We pledged to ensure a decent roof over the head of every resident and our work, working with residents threatened with eviction, lobbying L&Q to take appropriate action is a fundamental part of that pledge. We will continue to hold Housing Associations to account for tenants across the borough and to ensure that all homes in our borough are well kept and provide a decent home for residents.
