Following on from the £800K dividend in November 2022 released as a consequence of record profits by London Energy, which is 100% publicly owned we are delighted to be receiving a second dividend of £1.2m for Waltham Forest and can announce how it will be allocated.

  • £100,000 to support of fantastic residents and groups working hard to improve their local environment and help local bio-diversity, like the group Cllr Ros Dore is working with in Highams Park South to clean up the Ching or the Friends of Queens Road Cemetery who have transformed that ‘Glyphosate Desert’ into an tranquil oasis of wild flowers and pollinators. As well as supporting even more of our roads and streets to pick up the baton and become #BeeFriendlyStreets! This is all really important and contributing towards addressing actions in our Climate Action Plan- ‘A Greener, More Resilient Borough’ set of actions.
  • £400,000 for Community Ward Forums, for one off small capital projects that we have in our wards, improving environmental and climate infrastructure and facilities. This will be divided up as £20K for a 3 Member Ward and £13K for a 2 Member Ward.
  • £750,000 to help support our residents to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle even more of their stuff! This includes the rolling out of food waste recycling to more housing estates and purpose-built blocks of flats, supporting our 15 Minute Neighbourhood approach with the delivery of neighbourhood ‘Repair Cafes & Repair Events’ and community led and run ‘Swishing Exchanges’. It will introduce opportunities and infrastructure to recycle even more products, and the creation of two more ‘Library of Things’ – one in Chingford and one in Leytonstone and lots and lots of resident engagement!

This will be the biggest cash injection we have ever put into supporting this agenda which is a critical part of the delivery of our Climate Action Plan- ‘Consuming Less, Recycling More’ set of actions.
